Product Description


A brass thermometer specifically designed for measuring the temperature of sugar and jam. The scale has a temperature range of +40 to +200°C in 2°C divisions.

The brass casing measures and handle are 250mm approx.

The thermometer's scale is clearly marked in black and shows the optimum temperatures for:

• Caramel
• Crack Toffee
• Small Crack Toffee
• Hard ball
• Soft ball
• Jam and
• Sterilise

To use just place the into the mixture to be measured up to the "liquid level" mark on the thermometer. Then simply heat the mixture until the required temperature is reached.

Very pleased with product, easy to read and easy to clean ( I stand it in hot hot immediately after removing it from the jam pan). The only gripe is that there is nothing to hook it onto the side of the pan/handle and if left without attaching it, it will slide across the pan. (Posted on 22/11/2013)

I have yet to test the thermometer, but it looks robust and previous reviews have given me great confidence in the product. This Thermometer is perfect for jam making - I have made Strawberry Jam and Raspberry Jam - both of which are usually difficult to set - and got a lovely set after only 8 minutes boiling at the Jam Set temperature ! I have tested the thermometer and I have found that it has to be hung with string from the preserving pan handle to get an accurate reading. That is suspended in the jam/jelly. NOTE: Don't let it on stand the base of the pan though, as that way it gets too hot and results in a false reading. (Posted on 01/04/2013)
