Dataloggers
Dataloggers are electronic instruments whose function is to record data over a period of time. The dataloggers supplied by Thermometer Superstore are generally temperature data loggers and will therefore take and store temperature readings at regular intervals.
Temperature logging can be useful in many circumstances. For example many thermometer data loggers are used to monitor the temperature of temperature-sensitive items, such as high-risk foods, during transport, to check that they have not been subject to temperature that may cause they to spoil, or at which harmful bacteria could grow. We have also supplied temperature dataloggers to customers carrying out clinical trials on drugs so that they can assess the effects of temperature on the stability of the drug.
Dataloggers can record many thousands of temperature readings and can be set up to take at readings at intervals ranging from a few seconds to hours apart.
The datalogger is set up by connecting it to a computer, either by using a cable or with a specially made cradle or interface. Once the start and stop times and the reading intervals have been programmed into the logger, the datalogger is left in position to record temperatures. At the end of the recording period the data is then uploaded to a computer where the results can be displayed or used to produce graphs etc using the datalogger's software.
Some dataloggers are available with only an internal sensor which simply allows it to measure the surrounding air temperature, whilst others can be connected to a range of probes to enable them to measure almost any material. Some dataloggers have multi-channel functions which enable them to connect to several probes at the same time and take and save readings from each of the probes simultaneously.
